North Wearables, awearables startup based in Canada, is seeking a buyer according various reports. The startup is expected to launch 2nd version of their Foals some time during this year.
Original specifications were released back in early 2018. In last two years, the startup has received funds from brands like Intel, Fidelity Capital, Amazon and others. Even the Government of Canada has helped the outfit through their Strategic Innovation Fund.
But now, according to news reports by Bloomberg, North Wearables seeks a buyer which has people competent enough and familiar with this field. This search for buyer started back in summer of last year and current situation of shocks related to viral outbreak has increased the need.
North Wearable announced its 2.0 version of Focals back in December of last year. This generation of Focals will have better retinal display and improved overall quality than its predecessor. Retinal display in new generations is claimed to be 10 times better than its predecessor.
“Today, we‘re pushing to set new, more ambitious goals and announcing our next project: Focals 2.0.”, they wrote. “Focals 2.0 are truly the most advanced smart glasses ever made. We’ve further miniaturized the technology that goes into Focals by 40%, making the glasses lighter, sleeker, and more powerful with a new 10x improved retinal display. Focals 2.0 will also offer a wider range of prescription support. No compromises to traditional eyewear.”
Focals are normal everyday looking spectacles with Augmented Reality capability and holographic, transparent display inside its lenses. Only the wearer can see what’s being displayed which allows them to see notifications and other information with high privacy. Electronic components of these spectacles are hidden away in the interior of its arms. Everything on these smart glasses can be controlled with the help of a ring word around a finger of the wearer.
Second generation of Focals certainly looks to have some promising features. It is yet to be seen what kind of price tag these spectacles will have.
