TomTom has expanded its GPS sports watch line with new features and has unveiled an activity tracker race, Touch.
TomTom Spark 3
TomTom Spark 3 is the direct iteration of Spark 2 with the only addition or route exploration. Using, Route exploration runner can upload up to 15 trials directly onto the watch and the route is recorded to make the journey back easy. The watch along with integrated heart rate monitor comes equipped with compass and ability to automatically track activities like cycling, running or swimming. According to the company, the battery life is up to 2 weeks depending on the usage but if the music, heart-rate and GPS are all in use, battery life will be maximum five hours. The watch comes in three variants i.e Spark 3 Music for $169.99, Spark 3 Cardio for $189.99 and Spark 3 Cardio + Music for $249.99
TomTom Touch is company’s attempt to take some share out of crowded fitness bands. A slim design that has all the standard features you expect from a fitness-band however, the only unique selling point is the Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA). BIA uses electric impulse to measure body composition (ratio of body fat to muscle mass) and in return indicate if the body fat has reduced or your muscles have increased. Again, like any other device, it is waterproof to an IPx7 level, a monochrome touch screen to display states and provide basic phone notifications. The battery life is up to 5 days and is available in small and large size.
With a price tag of $129.99, the chances of TomTom taking a significant share in this market seems bleak but we wait and watch.
TomTom Adventurer is aimed for explorers who like to go for hiking, running or hitting mountains in the winter. When it comes to standard features it is similar to Spark 3 (Cardio + Music). However, it has a rugged design, Hiking Sports Mode, barometer, compass and ability to track slope run to provide live altitude for ascent and descent metrics. The hiking sports mode increases the battery life to 24 hours making this smart watch one of the bests in terms of battery life. TomTom Adventurer will cost $349.99 and will be made available from 18th October.
