WatchOS was unveiled back in the September of this year with support for Apple Watch Series 5, 4 and 3. Although, support for older Apple Watches was promised to be later in fall of ongoing year. Apple has delivered on this promise just recently.
The 6.1 version of its operating system for Apple Watches was released few days ago after some days of beta tests. Series 2 and 1 of Apple Watches can now update to this WatchOS. This update also brings in some minor updates as well as a few bug fixes. This has marked the end of the wait for anyone using older versions of Apple Watches. Although they are a few weeks late to the part but at least they can enjoy the new upgrade now like everyone else and not feel left out.
WatchOS 6.1 carries a lot of incredible functions including an app store, new health features, applications, watch faces and complications. All of these features can now be enjoyed on the Series 2 and Series 1 Apple Watches except from the new watch faces.
Calculator and Voice Memos are the new applications to see the light of the day in this new update while the Books application provides the option for listening audio books. Developers can no design software that runs explicitly on Apple Watch independently. This will make way for a number of new applications as well.
“watchOS 6.1 introduces support for AirPods Pro and includes improvements and bug fixes. This update also brings watch OS 6 to Apple Watch Series 1 and 2.” Said a note accompanying this brand new release.
WatchOS can be updated directly from your smartwatches. Just by going to settings and selecting install in Software Updates present in General menu. The OS can also be update through the Apple Watch applications on accompanying iPhones.
