What makes “The Mission” so Special?

The Mission is a rugged and durable Android watch. It is an action sports watch for surfing, ski-diving, scuba diving, mountain biking and snowboarding. It’s the only smart watch to feature Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Wear 2100 system-on-a-chip, which consumes less power than previous chips and improves battery life.

Nixon has always taken its own path in watches, creating franchise products like The 51-30, The Time Teller and The Ultratide. Weve always pushed things that have never been done before and were doing it again with The Mission, says Nick Stowe, CEO of Nixon.

Body Manufacturing and Design

The watch has a 48 mm polycarbonate case, 316L stainless-steel body, and a fully round AMOLED display. It has GORILLA Glass covering with touch-screen to resist the elements. There’s a raised stainless steel bezel in tow to protect the touchscreen from damage.

Buyers will also be able to customize Nixon’s The Mission look with a selection of colored mission-wearablecasings. There’s also over 20 silicon watch straps and over 15 different bezels to choose from including gunmetal, and gold.

Android Support

To tell a word of Android Wear, The Mission will support Google. It will give wearer an access to download and install apps from the Google Play Store. Nixon is also bundling a coupling of its own apps to take full advantage of onboard sensors. The Nixon Mission app will bring real-time surf and snow conditions while the Trace app will allow you attach a puck to surf or snowboard to calculate speed, distance covered and time.

Data Storage

The watch also includes 4GB of internal storage for music and apps, and 512MB of RAM, both of which are quite usual for Android Wear watches.

Battery Life

The battery of watch lasts up to two days even is severest conditions. This has been made possible by new Wear 2100 chipset which is 25% faster and consumes much less power than previous chip. So it has comparatively longer battery life as compared to other watches of same kind.

Voice Control

Another bang-up feature of the Mission is voice recognition system. The mic is positioned behind a plastic clip to maintain a 10-meter rating. You don’t have to take your phone out when you’re in extreme climate.

Tyson White, vice president of Nixon said, “All of our watches have to meet a high standard of durability and water resistance and for many of these participants, a fragile smartwatch is useless“.

Water Resistance

nixonMost wearables including Apple Watch have a waterproof rating of IP67 or IP68 which means, you can wear it using excessing exercising or washing your hand or going to a maximum depth of 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. However, if you wish to go beyond it, your options are drastically reduced.

Nixon Mission is water-resistant up to 100 meters. It is the highest waterproof rating of any smartwatch available for purchase in the market at the moment. It even knocks down the Casio’s Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10, which is water-resistant for up to 50 meters only.

Others

The mission also includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. So you can never miss notifications for email, call, text or app alert from your phone. It also includes GPS and is supported by Google Maps.

Processor

The watch contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100.

Availability

The Mission will arrive market in mid-October, 2016. It will cost $400 USD, undercutting CASIO by $100. The customized versions will sell for $450 USD. Additional bands cost $45 each and a special Mission Power Cord sells for $25.
