MWC 2017: Hands-On with Omate 4G Connected Smartwatch

Companies from all over the world has descended on Barcelona with great deal of new phones, smartwatches and tablets for MWC 2017. Talking about companies, Omate is a company which is known for the watches it makes for children. Omate has announced the launch of its newest smartwatch.

Omate O4VC or Omate 4G video call is the Chinese manufacturer’s first attempt to make a wearable with 4G connectivity. That means that you will be able to put your SIM card into the smartwatch and can have instant connectivity. This device is basically targeted at the elderly and the kids. This device sports some really impressive specifications. It has 512 MB of RAM, 4Gb of onboard storage and QualcommSnapdragon Wear 2100 processor. Moreover, it also has GPS, Wi-Fi and supports Bluetooth.

This device has a 1.3 inch square shaped capacitive touchscreen and is equipped with 2 megapixel camera along with a loudspeaker and camera. The great feature is, you can easily make video calls via the front facing camera. Presumably so that parents could keep an eye on their kids and could video call them whenever they want.

Like many smartwatches, the Omate 4G does use a 20mm watch strap which means you will be able to swap it out for another one, in case you don’t like the one that comes with it. There are a few cases available for the watch casing on the O4VC, which makes it kid-friendly. Finally, the Omate O4VC is also rated at IP67 for water resistance and also dust resistance.

According to company’s press release, a single charge to its 600mAh Lithium Polymer battery is enough to keep it going for almost three days. Other features include a ceramic antenna, SOS button, magnetometer, a gyroscope and IP67 water resistance rating. According to the company, Omate will release on June and will retail for 149 dollars.
