Moto360 has launched the 3rd Generation of its smartwatches to the surprise of many. It carries a Snapdragon Wear 3100 and runs on the WearOS operating system.First generation of Moto 360 smartwatches was launched back in 2014 which coincided with the launch of Android Wear (Now called WearOS) operating system by Google. It’s round LCD and a really compact design grabbed a lot of interest in wearables market. All this lead to the launch of 2nd Generation of Moto 360 only a year later. Motorola suffered slow sales and decided to step away from smartwatch wearables market.
Shakil Barkat, Global Product Development Head at Motorola back then went on to say that “Wearables do not have a broad enough appeal for us to continue to build on it year after year.”
Although he felt necessary to mention that it did not mean Motorola had decided to step away from this industry entirely and made it clear that they can renter the wearable and smartwatches market at any time
“We believe the wrist still has value and there will be a point where they provide value to consumers more than they do today.”
Two years later, now in 2019, 3rd Generation of this smartwatch is back in the race in much more crowded wearables market. It is important to mention that this newly launched smartwatch is not completely Motorola’s.
eBuyNow, a firm based in Canada, has manufactured this version of Moto 360. eBuyNow has worked with a number of other major clients as well including Mircosoft, Toshiba, Panasonic and Samsung to execute the developments of new products rapidly.
Motorola has made a clever decision there as this keeps it from making any extra investments and it most likely is working on a model of revenue share with eBuyNow.
Moto360 Generation 3 carries 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It also incorporates a number of fitness trackers including a heart rate sensor. In addition to that, it also has a GPS chip and NFC services. Snapdragon 3100 Quadcore processor makes it smooth in its performance while a 355mAh battery, Always-On Display, Water Resistance, OLED Display and 1.2 inch display screen make it one of the impressive smartwatches in today’s market. Its price starts from $350 in USA.
