IBM's "Watson" is all active to teach you fitness

Intel, Samsung, Apple and all other big companies are investing in fitness tracking and wearables, so why not IBM? The company wants its Supercomputer “Watson” to keep you fit and active.

This all comes through an official source. IBMs own CEO Ginni Rometty during the company’s first speech at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas revealed their intentions. The CEO stated that IBM is enthusiastically partnering with the Smart clothes manufacturing company, Under Armour to develop next generation of Wearable that not only track bio-metrics but put science to it to predict and improve our lives. These could then help athletes to predict injuries.

The partnership is for IBMs upcoming UA Record fitness app for Apple’s iPhone. The app will be backed by IBMs superhuman, oh! Sorry Supercomputer Watson. To those who are negligent about the wonders performed by this machine, it defeated human champions about five years ago. And, all that was shown in a TV game show “Jeopardy!” which means that we are not faking it at all. The Watson will support the app and will become a personal nutrition consultant, fitness coach and a sleep tracker for the athletes.

Under Armour’s CEO Kevin Plank previously also claimed that the products by the company are used by around 160 million people around the world. For the new app, it will compare the data of the user with millions of people using the same tech. The comparison would be done with the help of a novel feature called “Just Like Me.”

Apart from the teaming with Under Armour, IBM has also partnered with Medtronic. IBMs Watson and Medtronic’s famous medical expertise will form an alliance to assist people with diabetes. The new app will help them manage their disease by tracking the data from insulin pumps and glucose monitoring devices.

Watson has continuously proved to be a big yes for IBM over years. Rometty claimed that Watson is superior above all because it helps analyze and explain data to take important business decisions. Watson has a strategic value and position in a big company like IBM. Speaking about cognitive computers, Rometty said that;

“This is an era of systems you do not program. They understand, they reason and they learn. And, therefore, they have hypotheses and confidence levels.”

Moreover, Watson’s world-famous abilities have also been made part of a robot. SoftBank Robotics Vice President Kenichi Yoshida explained about it during the Rosetti’s speech in CES, 2016. Pepper is an empathetic robot that knows how to interact with people. The purpose behind the devleopent of this robot is to facilitate customer services in the hospitality industries, banking, and retail.

Seems like all is going very well for IBM? What do you think?
