Huawei Preparing to Launch a Mate Smartwatch

According to various sources, Huawei has filed an application to trademark “Mate Watch”. This appears to be an effort to expand its line of products under “Mate” branding.

Huawei unveiled its first Huawei Mate smartphone more than half a decade ago during the year 2013. More than a dozen smartphones have been launched since then in addition to tablets and computers branded under “Mate” series. And now it appears that Huawei is looking to further expand the products in this brand even more with the launch of a “Mate Watch” which is most likely going to be a smartwatch.

This brand, based in China, has become giant in matter of a few years in Smartphones industry and overall in tech space as well. Recently it filed an application to trademark a product called “Huawi Mate Watch” at the start of this month. This trademark application was registered with CNIPA (Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration). Few months ago at the start of this year, a similar kind of application was also filed to trademark a product which went by the name of “Mate Pod” which is most likely going to be either smart speakers or a pair of earables.

As of now, Huawei has its Huawei Watch GT and Huawei Watch series available in the market. From which, Huawei Watch GT 2e was unveiled just recently back in march while in October of last year we saw the launch of 2nd generation of smart watches in Huawei Watch series named Huawei Watch 2.

Apart from this, Huawei also has a series of smart fitness bands available in market as well. Huawei Band 4 was the most recent launch in this series which is meant to compete in a lot busier smart fitness bands market. It is yet to be seen whether Huawei would is planning to keep the Mate smartwatch a separate thing or would it mark the end of Huawei Watch as the company’s flagship smartwatch.
