Google, after its smart glasses, was planning on launching its smart lenses since then. The lenses which have the tendency to saves life were gifted with the patent back in March, 2015. We do not know if there is only one rendition of the lenses coming up. But, recently we came across the news which made us to believe this news.
Google’s health tracking contact lenses are considered to be coming with the solar powered technology. That is where the rumor arises that there might be a chance of two versions; one with the solar power technology and the other the simple one; launching together.
A new patent, which is revealed by Quartz, explains that how the solar cells can be used to power on external light consuming resources. The technology will work on the simple rule; Point your head towards the sky, power up for next few hours and you are done! However, the news is too good to be true anyway.
The patent which was revealed on 13th October, notes that the smart contact lenses would track the temperature and level of alcohol in blood of the wearer. They will also be able to gauge the allergens in the atmosphere and process the price tags of the visual images conveniently. After collecting all the information the lenses will than send this information to the connected device such as smartphone.
As far as the charging is concerned, the photo detector and the solar cells can turn the light directly from the sun, bulbs and even the camera flashes into transformable energy to power the electronics in the lens, even if partially only. This prototype smart contact lens was also said to charge using radio frequencies.
It is important to note that the previous patent also pointed to the glucose monitoring level which is essentially important for patients with diabetes. Google’s team consists of the team at the University of Virginia. The entire team is putting all their efforts to merge body motion or heat with solar power to run small wearable sensors.
The lenses are still in the prototype phase and under construction. It remains to be seen that what will be the Google’s final product and if it really will fall under our expectations or not. Till than let’s take every news with the pinch of the salt!
