According to the official press release from Garmin, the company has proudly announced its takeover the developer of crowdsourcing boating platform ActiveCaptain
Active Corporation – the developer of crowd sourced rich content for boaters, marketed as ActiveCaptain.
ActiveCaptain is a community-based, electronic marine database. It provides real-time information about marinas, anchorages, local points of interest, and marine hazards, mostly user-generated, for cruising and sailing destinations around the world. ActiveCaptain has a user base of 250,000 plus users. It is available as a website as well as Android and iOS mobile applications.
According to Cliff Pemble, CEO Garmin, “There is really nothing else out there that compares to the depth and breadth of the ActiveCaptain database. Mariners rely on ActiveCaptain to make their voyages better informed and more enjoyable, and we are delighted to add this technology to the Garmin portfolio.”
