Here’s a new Fitness Training Technique For Athletes: Blood Flow Restriction Method
Wearing a black cuff around the muscles during workout to restrict blood flow, do you think will boost athlete’s performance?
New fitness training methods and techniques keep on rising, and sometimes such odd ways are introduced that they might seem strange in the beginning. Many Olympians and Paralympians who have the determination to excel, will do just about anything to achieve fitness and boost their performance.
Many Olympians have been seen in the recent Tokyo Olympics 2021 mega event, wearing black cuffs around their muscles during workouts and training sessions. This method, known as the blood flow restriction training method, involves the use of a cuff or band which reduced blood flow to the muscle. This leads to lesser oxygen being supplied to the muscle cells.
HOW IT WORKS?
With a limited oxygen supply, the body needs more effort to work. During an intense workout, the exercise becomes tougher because there is more fatigue. The cuff is removed after workout. The blood flows back into the muscles causing a gain in fitness levels.
This technique is still new and scientists are working upon thorough research to develop this technique even further. According to a recent study, athletes who require to insert more strength during the play like wrestlers, this particular training technique has helped them perform better by around 6-19%. Probably because the restricted blood supply leads to an increase in protein usage by the body which helps develop muscle and strength.
For endurance athletes, like cyclists, again this method has been considered to be effective. Such athletes need to circulate just enough oxygen to the muscles that are required. This training method has been shown to make the body develop additional blood vessels. This, in turn, increases the blood flow rate to the muscles. Stress on the existing blood vessels leads the body to develop more blood vessels. This means more oxygen-rich blood going to the muscles which may lead to a boost in performance.Â
This new fitness training technique for athletes looks really effective, as research is being done on it currently. We will very soon see advancements in this technique and many athletes and coaches implementing these kinds of training methods in their regular workout sessions.
