The boxing was the only sports which was unaffected with the new development and wave of the tech era. Now, finally someone as big as HBO (Home Box Office) has taken notice and opted for something good. HBO’S new boxing unit, Punch Force, got a patent for the boxing gloves. The patent is approved and granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  The gloves will be able to measure the force of the punches and transfer that information directly to database.

The new gloves will allow the channel to analyze the information accurately and properly; which is associated with boxing. Through the use of accelerometers and gyroscope sensors ,HBO will track and analyze different types of punches and the information database has profiles for different punch types and other punch tracking data.

The patent reads that:

“Many currently available data and analysis devices for athletes are intrusive to the athlete’s performance.  As a result, the devices may not be effectively used in an analysis during an event.  An athlete’s uniform is designed for maximum mobility and protection, and should not impede the performance of the athlete.  Thus, there is a need for a system and method for data capture and analysis that does not interfere with an athlete’s actions and abides by the rules of the sport.”

It stays to be perceived how HBO will utilize and apply this data for the advancement of boxing and yet it can also assist in further understanding of the sports and those who are new in this field will generally be inspired by this technology.
