Athletes and players always want to stay fit, no matter what. They want to make the best out of their exercise regimes, daily routines, and game practices; but there is always that risk of an injury which can create a problem. This is why IMeasureU intended to create a wearable that would be capable of measuring exact load that is being put on the athletes from training or games.
Thor Besier, a world-renowned bio-mechanist and co-founder of IMeasureU, along with Mark Finch, founder and CTO, have created a small, lightweight sensor that is capable of providing lab-quality metrics and can easily measure angular direction in three dimensions along with the acceleration. The sensor can easily be used in different sports for the quality data provision.
New Zealand-based IMU have, for now, intended to base the IMeasureU wearable on basketball only.
“From a biomechanics perspective, you’ve got huge humans playing a high-intensity sport on hard floors, indoors,” CEO Matt Clarke said.
The Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association have already used IMU. Not so surprisingly, the team has been protected from any sort of injuries since past few seasons and also helps a player recover fast if some injury happens. The New Zealand Breakers of the National Basketball League have also been using IMU for their player protection.
With IMU’s sensors, you can track each limb so you can see how a player moves when they are hurt when compared to their normal posture. “If you’ve got a guy returning from injury, they have to be very precisely managed,” Clarke stated.
The data collected by the sensors of the wearable will make it easier for the athletes to know that how much a simple workout can put a lot of stress on them. It will help in reducing the pressure and stress within the professional teams.
“Fast-forward five years and you’ll go to your local sports store and buy a pair of compression socks which will be instrumented with sensors and you’ll just go to the app store and buy our app,” hopes Clarke.
In a nut shell, IMeasureU is definitely a fruitful device for players and team who value the essence of fitness in their games.
