Apple Watch 4 – An Intelligent Guardian For Your Health

What’s New?

The fourth generation Apple Watch is here and with new technological advancements it is almost like a cool gadget from your favorite sci-fi film. The newest installment of Apple watch goes beyond the realms of conventional heart rate monitoring or steps count.

This device that was unveiled last week has an electrocardiogram app that can detect often overlooked heart defects that might result in a heart attack later on.

It is an ideal choice for people with preexisting heart conditions, it has an in-built heart rate sensor that can identify whether the heart is beating normally or has signs of atrial fibrillation (Afib). Afib or atrial fibrillation is essentially an irregular heart beat. Conditions as such can increase risk of stroke and heart failure in a large percentage of people over the age of 40.

As per Ethan Weiss, a cardiologist at the University of California, San Francisco, “I can see a role for wearable ECGs as a mechanism to diagnose arrhythmia as an adjunct to what is currently available,”

Special Health Features

The new watch runs on Apple’s new WatchOS 5 operating system. It has a lot of additional health features that makes it different from its predecessors. For example, it comes with a fall detector that calculates wrist trajectory and impact acceleration to predict a fall. If it senses that you are immobile for one minute, it will immediately notify emergency contacts using the SOS feature.

While many different versions of smart watches can detect heart rate which can help track calories burned and resting heart rate etc. Apple Watch 4 offers a little something more. It can now also notify if your heart rate appears to be too slow which could imply that your heart is not pumping enough blood to your body.
