When it comes to the wearable market, there is no surprise to report that the market almost tripled in size Year on Year (YoY). In the last three months ending September 2015, 21 million wearable devices were shipped around the world according to IDC’s estimates.
Furthermore, Fitbit remained the leader in this industry but we are seeing a steady growth by companies that were no where on the chart last year such as Apple and Xiaomi. Apple watch is Apple’s only product and Xiaomi low-cost Mi Band remain popular among China.
Are these worrying signs for Fitbit? Will the lead remain the same in coming quarters as more and more companies are targeting the wearable industry? Will Fossil be acquired by a bigger and traditional company similar to Fossil acquisition of Misfit? Will startups applying science to sensor data make make a difference in the market?
