Standalone music streaming is finally available for Spotify Application on Apple Watch now. This means you can directly stream music on your Apple Watch with Spotify Application over Cellular Data or WiFi network without having to use the iPhone.
Spotify application for Apple Watch was launched almost two years ago in 2018. This application was very limited in terms of its functionality as it allowed the user to control playback of music playing on the phone. On top of this, shuffling and connectivity to external speakers was also available through Spotify Connect.
“We know the importance of having music on the go, which is why we’re excited to bring a new Spotify app to our highly mobile users on Apple Watch.” Spotify stated back then.
This application did not feature any functionality to play podcasts or music offline but Spotify assured the functionality would debut in the future with an update in software. We are still waiting patiently for this feature. However, most recent update has added the functionality to stream online music directly from your Apple Watch with WiFi or Cellular network without the need of having an iPhone nearby.
“We’re focused on developing experiences that enable users to listen to Spotify wherever and whenever they want – regardless of the device or platform. After an initial testing period, we are now rolling out streaming capabilities for Spotify on the Apple Watch,” A spokesperson from Spotify stated to TechCrunch.
This brand-new update will be rolled out to the users in a gradual manner. Which means some of the users will receive the update before others and you might have to wait for your turn. Spotify application is available on App Store and can be downloaded from there.
