Following its unveiling at Spring Training in February 2016, the Mike Trout Old Hickory Smart Bat Powered by Zepp (MT27 Smart Bat) is now available for retail purchase on Zepp.com and OldHickoryBats.com.
Previously attached to a mount on the end of the bat, the Zepp 2 sensor can now be seamlessly integrated into the MT27 Smart Bat, allowing elite players to take advantage of the Zepp 3D Swing Analyzer to improve their training and game performance.
Robin Han, Zepp CEO, stated;
“The introduction of swing analytics and tracking to the sports world has already changed the way star athletes of today and the elite athletes of tomorrow train to improve their game. Putting the Smart Bat in the hands of these athletes represents the future of baseball and the vision that Zepp and Old Hickory have for the game.”
The Smart Bat combines the familiar feeling and natural grip of a traditional wood bat with actionable data and analytics that give players and coaches unprecedented insights to improve their coaching and practicing routines.

Wood bats that are “Smart Bat Ready,” have a 30.8 mm by 28 mm cavity in the knob to house the removable sensor. This versatility allows athletes to charge their Zepp 2 sensor in or out of the bat, easily locking it into place or removing it with a turn of the key.
“Our bats have stood the test of time and been the go-to choice for elite players like Mike Trout for decades. The Smart Bat is the next phase in the evolution of bat design, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Zepp and one of the best players in the game to bring this innovative product to market,” said Travis Copley, Old Hickory VP of Sales and Marketing.
Beyond the batting cages, Smart Bats Powered by Zepp has been approved for in-game use during top amateur tournaments and events hosted by Prospect Wire, Perfect Game USA, Ripken Baseball, and National Alliance of College Summer Baseball. The Smart Bat is also now part of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum collection and will be on display in the Today’s Game case in the Whole New Ballgame exhibit, which tells the story of how the game has evolved in the past four decades.
To mark the availability of this revolutionary product, Mike Trout will take a commemorative first swing at Angel’s Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., where he will be joined by 10 youth players from Vineyard Little League, district 71, from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Starting today, consumers can purchase the Mike Trout Old Hickory Smart Bat on Zepp.com or OldHickorybats.com for $145. The Zepp Baseball 2 sensor is sold separately.
